WHAT IS THE ALBUM DIGNITY ABOUT?

My latest project, "Dignity," is inspired by my experiences over the past 22 years with my daughter Juliette, who has severe disabilities.

It's all about respect, sincerity, hope & fear, about inclusion, courage and most importantly about dignity.

I'm grappling with some big questions:

How can I express these themes musically?

How can I create music that really moves people and reminds them of the importance of dignity?

WORUM GEHT ES IM NEUEN ALBUM DIGNITY?

Mein neues Album, "Dignity", ist inspiriert von meinen Erfahrungen der letzten 22 Jahre mit meiner Tochter Juliette, die mehrfach schwerstbehindert ist.

Es dreht sich um Respekt, Aufrichtigkeit, Hoffnung und Angst, um Inklusion, Mut und vor allem natürlich um das Thema Würde.

Ich ringe mit einigen großen Fragen:

Wie kann ich diese Themen musikalisch ausdrücken?

Wie kann ich Musik schaffen, die die Menschen wirklich bewegt und sie animiert, den Begriff „Würde“ neu zu überdenken?

WHAT DOES DIGNITY MEAN TO ME?

The theme of dignity is omnipresent, yet often reality and ideals diverge.

With my fifth album "Dignity" I want to bridge this gap and tell often overlooked stories, especially about the challenges of being a mother in the music industry and the immeasurable love and dedication it takes to raise a severely disabled child.

My time with my daughter Juliette has shown me that true dignity is not dependent on external circumstances but on the inner strength and respect we show to one another.

The ability to maintain, create, and celebrate a unique form of dignity independent of social norms shares much in common with the free improvisation found in jazz.

My mission extends beyond music.

Through my work in the media, my tireless advocacy for inclusion, and as a speaker at events, I try to bring the topic of dignity into public discourse and shine a light on those who are often left in the shadows of society.

"The dignity of every human being is inviolable"

is a paragraph in the German constitution and must not just be a well-meaning sentiment, but be rediscovered in today's context and filled with real-life significance more than ever.

WAS BEDEUTET MIR DAS THEMA WÜRDE?

Das Thema Würde ist allgegenwärtig, doch oft weichen Realität und Ideale voneinander ab.

Mit meinem 5. Album "Dignity" möchte ich diese Kluft überwinden und oft übersehene Geschichten erzählen, insbesondere von den Herausforderungen des Mutterseins im Musikgeschäft und der unermesslichen Liebe und Hingabe, die nötig sind, um ein schwerstbehindertes Kind großzuziehen.

Die Zeit mit meiner Tochter Juliette hat mir gezeigt, dass wahre Würde nicht von äußeren Umständen abhängt, sondern von der inneren Stärke und dem Respekt, den wir einander entgegenbringen.

Die Fähigkeit, völlig unabhängig von gesellschaftlicher Norm eine eigene Form der Würde zu bewahren, zu schaffen und zu feiern hat erfreulich viel mit der freien Improvisation im Jazz gemeinsam.

Meine Mission geht jedoch auch über die Musik hinaus.

Durch meine Arbeit in den Medien, meinen unermüdlichen Einsatz für die Inklusion und als Sprecherin bei Veranstaltungen möchte ich das Thema Würde in den öffentlichen Diskurs bringen und den Blick auf diejenigen lenken, die sehr oft im Schatten der Gesellschaft stehen gelassen werden.

„Die Würde des Menschen ist unantastbar“

steht als Paragraf im Grundgesetz und darf nicht nur ein nett gemeinter Hinweis sein, sondern muss im heutigen Kontext wiederentdeckt und mehr denn je mit echtem Leben gefüllt werden.

WHAT DOES "DIGNITY" SOUND LIKE?

"Dignity" is a hymn to life in all its facets.

From reflective melodies to powerful sounds and beats, I explore the range of human emotions and experiences.

The main part of the production is formed by the

"Suite for Dignity".

It is a multi-movement work that deals with various experiences, aspects and perceptions.

In Part II of the Suite, for example, a family questions where they belong in society. The piece begins with a questioning introduction, an “Andante cantabile” in a neoclassical style with free improvisation inserted and moves into a swinging 6/4 time signature that goes through a harmonic rollercoaster of chords.

The solos of the musicians evoke what also happens in real life when improvising:

Energy starts to vibrate, the adrenaline kicks in, breathing becomes more intense, creative thoughts spread and solutions are found.

Improvisation is a great elixir of life!

The very rare sound combination of (bass) flute, Hammond organ, guitar and drums is extraordinary, especially now in the free style mix of the compositions, which I finally allow myself to live out after all these years!

In this 5th album, I am challenging my fellow musicians to rethink the current creative process of the compositions, as I want to move more freely through genres, sounds and playing styles.

The most meaningful, authentic and exciting album of my life is in the making!

WIE KLINGT "DIGNITY" FÜR MICH PERSÖNLICH?

„Dignity" ist eine Hymne an das Leben in all seinen Facetten.

Von nachdenklichen Melodien bis zu kraftvollen Klängen und Beats erkunde ich die Bandbreite menschlicher Emotionen und Erfahrungen.

Der Hauptteil des Albums wird gebildet von der

“Suite for dignity”.

Sie ist ein mehrsätziges Werk, das verschiedene Erlebnisse, Aspekte und Wahrnehmungen verarbeitet.

In Part II der Suite z.B. stellt sich eine Familie die Frage, wo sie in der Gesellschaft hingehört.

Das Stück beginnt mit einer fragenden Introduktion, einem „Andante cantabile“ im neoklassischen Stil mit eingefügten freien Improvisationen und geht über in einen schwingenden 6/4 Takt, der harmonisch durch ein „Wechselbad der Akkorde“ geht. Die Soli der Musiker lösen aus, was auch im wahren Leben beim Improvisieren passiert:

Energie fängt an zu vibrieren, das Adrenalin treibt an, die Atmung wird intensiver, kreative Gedanken machen sich breit und Lösungen werden gefunden.

Improvisation ist ein großartiges Lebenselixier!

Außergewöhnlich ist spätestens jetzt im freien Stilmix der Kompositionen, den ich mir nach all den Jahren erlaube auszuleben, die sehr seltene Soundkombination von (Bass)-Querflöte, Hammond Orgel, Gitarre und Schlagzeug!

In diesem 5. Album fordere ich im momentanen Schaffensprozess der Kompositionen meine Mitmusiker zum Umdenken auf, da ich mich freier durch Genres, Sounds und Spielart bewegen möchte, um dem Thema „Dignity“ in seiner Komplexität gerecht zu werden!

Es entsteht gerade das für mich sinnvollste, authentischste und spannendste Album meines Lebens!
